Eucalyptus Oils Blends
Eucalyptus is a medium-sized, single trunk evergreen tree that is native to Australia. The word Eucalyptus comes from the Greek word “eucalyptos” meaning “well-covered. This refers to the cup like covering that encloses the trees owers. The lower bark of the tree is rough, gray or brown while the upper bark is smooth pale and tinged with a blue hue. The mature leaves are dark green and glossy. Eucalyptus trees are one of the fastest growing trees in the world and can reach heights of 300 to 400 feet. These amazing trees have been used for everything from paper to fuel to hardwood. Because of its vast root system and moisture loving properties, it has been intentionally planted to absorb water in malaria infested marshy areas to rid the area of excess water.
Leaves and mature branches are used in the distillation process to extract the eucalyptus essential oil. To produce one pound of essential oil, over 50 pounds of plant material is needed. The bright, refreshing, slightly camphorous scent comes from its cineole-rich properties. Cineole is a remarkable chemical component that offers strong therapeutic properties. There is research to show that it is an airborne microbial, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antispasmodic, it increases cerebral blood flow, it’s mucolytic as well as having analgesic properties.
Eucalyptus oil is an exceptional remedy for clearing phlegm and enhancing breathing function. Various methods of use include topical, including massage, baths, compresses as well as direct inhalation, a diffuser and vaporizer. Eucalyptus oils blends well with Lavender, Lemon, Orange, Tea tree, Ravinsara, Rosemary, Sandalwood and Peppermint.
Cleansing Eucalyptus Bath
- 1 cup grapeseed oil
- 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- 8 drops orange essential oil
- 8 drops red mandarin essential oil
Blend well and add 1/4. cup to warm running bath water.
Breathe Right Diffuser Blend
- 30 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
- 25 drops Ravinsara essential oil
Drop into diffuser and relax with deep inhalations.
